Omg, why not try a mozart sonata first
Omg- maybe because she was not my student? I was teaching a masterclass and this is the repertoire she brought to work on. I can’t control what her teacher chooses to assign her, all I am able to do is work with what I have in that moment, so it happened to be the Ibert Concerto.

I think I would have left out some notes to breath instead of interupting the flow of the melody. Continue playing as though your breath had been a note. This is what trad players do anyway, not sure how such practices are looked at in classical, but it's what I would have done anyway and seems more musical to me.

That's not true. Circular breathing is possible on any wind instrument. :p My flute teacher circular breaths all the time, and he teaches his advanced students to do it too. Just look up "circular breathing for flute" on youtube and you'll get dozens of instructional and demonstrative videos. :)

@BaRToLoMaSi the breath requirements and embouchure for flute prevent circular breathing from being possible.

Thank you for posting this video! I've been working on this etude because it's required as one of the pre-screening requirements for USC. I've been going back and forth debating between how much rubato and how many musical liberties to take while playing this etude in order for the the breaths to not just sound like gasps of air but a musical gesture. Just some food for thought. Very clean playing! I've enjoyed it :)

I went to high school with her, and I'd donate my left arm to be the pianist's page-tuner. Yep..she's that incredible!
